You have just experienced an unusual day. Normally you are on time and out the door with 15 to 30 minutes to spare. Today is different – you don’t jump out of bed right away when your alarm rings, instead you grab some extra “z’s” and then you shower, make coffee and hit the road. Now you are running late and when you get to your destination your body mechanics are moving slower than normal. You feel funny – like you had too much coffee to drink and you have a headache. But you didn’t over due it with your coffee as you were running late, so you blame it on stress because you were running late.

Later in the morning before your typical coffee/tea/me time break, you feel light-headed again and your fingers aren’t cooperating with your laptop for the presentation you are trying to give. You are holding some papers and trying to turn pages in this group of pages that you brought to the meeting, and it is feeling like a monumental task.

What are you thinking now? You chalk it up to running late and getting a slow start today.

Tomorrow comes and you feel better. Everything is fine.

Two weeks from now you are feeling like your normal self again, didn’t give a second thought to it.

Then about a month later your body is hit with the lazy-day feeling again. You are a little late to work, the pages won’t turn properly, your fingers are all over your laptop, you feel like your voice is distorted a tad, you really get the feeling that you are not inside your own body. If you are normally a “Type A” personality, always a little early and very organized for meetings and presentations, then this day of yours is driving you crazy!

Okay, you chalk it up once more to sleeping in a little extra in the morning.

You don’t notice anything unusual again for a couple of years, then this lazy day thingy happens again and this time it lingers, to happen one day a month you think..

If you have these symptoms, you may want to jot them down in the notebooks I talked about. I really like having the notebooks, and I jot down stuff that is unusual or by now the usual annoying symptoms and I really feel like I am managing my life and not getting out of sorts that menopause has invaded my body.
