Noticing a dramatic change
08/07/2007
Suddenly one day, I wake up and my concentration for emptying the dishwasher is non existant, I move up stairs to collect laundry and make beds, and my motor skills are severly lacking. I make a cup of tea and think of all the wierd diseases I could possibly have. Then it strikes me, the noticable weight gain in my legs, hips and face, could this be the start of menopause??? The next day at my part time job, I answer the phone politely, but I feel like the person on the other end thinks I’m talking slowlyer than normal, I struggle to “fake it-till I make it” through the day so no one at my office can see what I feel is happening.
The next day and the weeks to follow, I am my cheerful old self again, everything is normal except the nagging weight gain that now my husband and kids have noticed. I feel under the gun to start and re-start a diet or healthy living plan. One day I get some depressed feelings, and I am usually never to feel this way, and what do I do? I EAT and EAT and EAT SWEETS. Then I’m back to my normal self, motor skills fine and no depression. I am fine for a month then the symptoms come back but this time for one week, not two days.
Record keeping is a good way to feel like you are helping yourself, so I make some entries in my notebooks. If i’m upstairs, it’s the upstairs journal. Downstairs or in the car, it’s one of those journals. Note: Do not throw away these notebooks. Get new binders and pages annually. This way you won’t misplace this valuable information and you can compare your symptoms. This really helps!!!
You “psych” yourself up using your symptom documentations, to “mind over matter” that you are just having a “menopause day” or an “m” day, and on you go with your life.
However, don’t let me stop you from visiting your physician, please visit your physician as often as you like, only you know how you feel and you may want to have some tests run at your doctors office to make you feel better. You may have a disease, not just menopause. Use this website as a helper only.
Want to feel refreshed and pampered?
Take a leisurely shower, eat 9/10ths of a 6 ounce vanilla yogurt, lie on your sofa or bed and apply 2 to 3 tablespoons of the left over yogurt to your face and forehead. Doze off or check your watch after 10 to 15 minutes, remove yogurt with warm water. What a way to start or end your day!!! You can’t help but feel more relaxed. Optional: add two 1/4 inch sliced cucumbers over your closed eyes. Remove after 15 minutes.
