“To cause to cease, (see pause), the permanent cessation of menstruation, normally between the ages of 40 and 50, or the period during which this occurs; female climacteric, or change of life -men’o-pause’al adj.”

What happened in to me was that I would have heavy bouts of menstruation at crazy unexpected times and then six months later, minimal spotting, this went on for a couple of years. I kept “period stuff” stocked up in my house, in my car, in a pocketbook. You just never new when the heavy flow would arrive.

The spotting only once a year, not monthly was noticeable big time, I recorded this in my medical notebook that I keep on myself. Keeping a menopause journal for yourself with lined paper or Wall Calendar will prove to be invaluable. Then hurrah, no more period, it never came back. However, over the next 12 months instead of the spotting the other symptoms were being introduced to my body.

I ignored the list I gave you on the “Am I going Crazy” section for as long as I could, then I had to take my own action. My husband purchased two books for me so that I knew I wasn’t alone in this process. Dr. Lee wrote What Your Doctor May Not Tell You About(TM): Premenopause, Balance Your Hormones and Your Life from Thirty to Fifty and What Your Doctor May Not Tell You About Menopause (TM): The Breakthrough Book on Natural Hormone Balance to help women like us understand what is going on in our bodies.

A process not often talked about in friendship circles. I have taken the advice wisely in these books, I have not elected for hormonal treatments, but I have modified my health with the healthy vegetables discussed like sweet potatoes, and walnuts, and now chew Centrum or One A Day vitamins, and also exercise, and get sunlight on my bones. Taking a calcium supplement is also worth looking into. With the help of your physician and the research you do yourself, you can live the life you want too!
