Community College Course, exercised my brain and I feel great!
01/30/2008
You may of remembered that I took a course at a local community college this past fall!
I did it to exercise my brain and escape some symptoms of menopause creeping in and “empty nest”.
Well, going to class which was Anatomy and Physiology I and a Lab, 2 times a week for a total of six hours, helped me in many many ways. I had to get my brain to focus on all kinds of cells and tissues and diseases and be quizzed on all of this interesting stuff. I had to work in a thick work book answering all kinds of questions.
Questions that took me 2 – four hours of homework time to answer just in the work book, then hours and hours of reading chapters and chapters and reviewing hundreds of pages of notes for tests.
The course was so very interesting, we learned about autoimmune diseases that you can get anytime, and techniques to help out diseases such as arthritis.
We learned that hair on your head is dead, so you can blow dry it, color it or curl it, and so don’t worry about it.
We learned about birth defects and diseases that are particularly vulnerable as we age.
The text book weighed about five pounds and combined with the work book the two were so heavy to tote around campus. I exercised my brain so much, that now, I have to have a book or magazine with me at all times, because I now know I love to read.
I exercised my feet so much by walking from the parking lot to the campus to the library to the class and back to the lot.
I exercised my sense of well being by having lab partners and working together as a team.
Let me urge you to take a course, whether it be for credit or an audit course. If you don’t want to hit the books, take a quilting course or a knitting course, how about a cooking course?
Why not start a book club or a card playing club.
Well, anyways, I feel tremendous! I truly believe challenging my brain and the social interaction was the best medicine for my menopause symptoms.
You will feel invigorated if you take a course, or step out of your comfort zone and have some fun, you could forget all about your menopause symptoms too!
