Menopause see clearly, redo the room you’ve been thinking about
02/08/2008
Okay, so you’ve been thinking about re-doing an old bedroom, and making it into an exercise room, or wall papering your extra room and turning it into a jewelry making room, or a craft room, or jacuzzi/spa room.
Well, what are you waiting for? For the last 13 years, my husband and I were trying to decide if we should turn our junk room into a master bedroom. We always called it the “future master bedroom”, then a few months before I turned fifty, my husband and I talked about it again, and we just decided to do it.
Actually, he did everything, but it was clear to me, we needed to do it now or why bother….
So over last spring and summer, I visited wallpaper and paint places, picking up swatches and we visualized how the room would look. My husband painted the window sills a bright white and when we were ready for the wall paper, we also looked online.
One place we visited on line that had terrific visuals and prices was americanblinds.com After a couple of months, just in time for my 50th birthday, my husband showed me his handywork. The walls were lined with beautiful fresh outdorsy scene and our “new” room had a fresh lively ocean border. He painted the switch covers to match the wall paper and he placed wood flooring over the old plywood.
This was the best gift of all for my big 50th birthday! The love that my husband put into finishing this room and the time we spent together looking at wallpaper and flooring, was fun togetherness. Why on earth did we wait so long? Probably because of our kids and their needs. You can’t go to soccer games and marching band events and re-do rooms.
Empty nesting and Menopause are Great!
We are now planning to start another project in about six months time. I think in your menopause years, something just clicks for the better and you decide to complete projects or take on new ones.
This menopause phase has a ton of advantages. Enjoy your new hobby room or new master bedroom or spa room or game room!
P.S. While “Mr Wonderful” was doing all this, you may remember I had enrolled in community college science course.
That kept my mind active, and gave him some space to do this “fun” project.
